There are thousands of fly species in the world but the housefly is the most common kind and the one you are likely to have bugging your peace at home. Even though the common housefly does not really bite, it can transmit diseases like typhoid, diarrhea, dysentery and cholera. They can also lead to eye infections besides being very annoying when they keep on perching on you. One of the major causes of fly accumulation is unclean or unhygienic surroundings like fecal matter and garbage that is rotting away. However, vegetation, uncovered food and thick shrubbery can also cause a fly problem even in clean hygienic homes.

Whereas most people do not consider flies too troublesome, you might have a need to get rid of them every way possible if they make your home feel uncomfortable or affect your image if you are running a business especially in the food industry.

Camphor – It is an amazing deterrent for the flies. You simply can chase out the flies by lighting it and allowing the fumes to spread in the rooms where the flies are.

Basil – It is a very strong and effective fly restrainer. You can consider growing this plant in the garden so that flies keep off. Other plants that work as great as basil are marigold, lavender and mint. You can add them into your flower arrangement in the house or simply plant them right outside the house to keep flies at bay.

Essential oils – They are some of the best remedies when it comes to flies and other pests around your home including cockroaches and ants. Peppermint, lemon grass, eucalyptus, and lavender are some of the best when it comes to getting rid of the flies. You can spray the oils around your rooms so they remain safe from the annoying insects.

Clove – The strong clove smell is what will work on the flies because they cannot withstand it. Place a few of the cloves strategically around the areas prone to the flies and they will start vanishing in no time at all.

Apple cider vinegar – It is widely used as a remedy for many things including skin issues. To get rid of flies using the vinegar, place some in a bowl and add liquid detergent and they will easily drown and leave you in peace.

Cucumber – The slices of cucumber are great in keeping flies off and ensuring they do not lay any eggs in your garbage container. Place a few on top of the garbage or around your house perimeter and flies will not get into the house.

White wine – You can mix it with dishwashing liquid to attract the flies before poisoning them. You can place the mixture in a bowl and place it around areas where the flies accumulate the most.

Cinnamon – This is another great home remedy you can use to repel flies from your home. The aroma of cinnamon is what the flies do not like and you will have an added advantage of fresher air around your home.

There are so many simple ways of getting rid of flies most of which are inexpensive and effective, hence much better than insecticides most people reaching for.
